I enjoy re-purposing good materials. This is cut from a horseshoe rasp. I have found only certain ones are suitable. This one is Swiss made steel. Steel is first annealed, then cut out, shaped drilled, re heat treated to a proper hardness and double tempered by my own formulas developed by testing
All finished out we named this one the File’ Gator, handle is exhibition grade desert ironwood, with copper mosaic pins

My ancesty is Scottish, Spanish, French and German. I like to trademark my sheaths with a bit of symbolism. Celtic wheel on front represents the interdependence of man nature and his surroundings. The Celtic tree of life on the back represents family, the stitching in the spiral is a Koru, the Maori symbol of life springs eternal, in honor of my adopted daughter of Maori ancestry
Original design of mine I call Matt’s Knife named after first one of these I designed. This one is very special, the blade is L6 Chrome Vanadium Oregon sawmill blade steel,the handle is extremely rare Texas native Cherrywood, most Texas Cherry was cut and used for furniture in the 1800s, only place usually still seen is on ranches that have been in same families for 150 yrs or more. This one was born in area around Fredericksburg, Texas and finished knife is there in Fredericksburg

My hunting knives are a favorite of guides and hunters. The Western Slope Special hunter was first put into production about 1997. The first one of that design I delivered to a Western Colorado hunter-guide. It is still in use in the field in Western Colorado and is his go to blade for cleaning game. It has been a very popular style for me and a real success.
